Evening light on Harty Ferry Slipway

Solitude at sunset. This is the Harty Ferry slipway at Oare about a month ago, as the tide was on its way out. The sun was going down, and the light was magical. The tops of the posts lit up in the warm light of the setting sun, and the wet parts of the posts below (still damp from when the tide was higher) made a dark contrast. The water of the Swale was shadowed by the high banks of the river.

It was one of those times when I could have made more pictures. However, when standing next to a tripod with a camera and a big lens, it is always the case that people come up for a chat. So, I had a lovely chat with two or three people, and contented myself with just this one picture.

I liked this picture enough that I've submitted it to some of the national competitive exhibitions. I've just heard back from the Clay Cross national exhibition that this picture was awarded a commendation, which I'm really pleased with. Still awaiting results from two others.
